Local Digital Visibility Indices — how South West businesses perform online
The Local Digital Visibility Indices are PYC’s recurring league tables measuring how well real businesses perform online — website speed, technical SEO, local presence, search visibility, and presence in AI search. Each index covers one sector in one city, scores every business 0–100 on the same methodology, and is re-measured every quarter so the movement is visible over time.
Where the Knowledge Base is strategy and the Glossary is method, the Indices are measurement at scale — the same diagnostic work applied to a whole local sector at once, published openly.
Why these exist
Section titled “Why these exist”There is no structured public answer to “which Bristol estate agents have the best websites?” or “how do Cheltenham law firms compare online?” These indices are that answer. Every figure is objective, dated, and reproducible from the methodology — there are no opinions about the businesses themselves, only measured facts about their digital presence.
The indices
Section titled “The indices”All seven are live for Q2-2026 at v0 — scored on Technical foundation + Content & trust, with Speed, Local, Visibility and AI search to follow as those data sources are wired in (see the methodology).
| City | Sector | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Bristol | Estate agents | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 18 firms |
| Bristol | Dentists | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 9 practices |
| Bath | Estate agents | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 15 firms |
| Swindon | Estate agents | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 8 firms |
| Cheltenham | Law firms | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 8 firms |
| Gloucester | Construction & trades | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 13 firms |
| Exeter | Solicitors | Live — Q2-2026 (v0) — 8 firms |
Each index is a hub: the league table ranks the sector, and every business gets its own diagnostic scorecard — pillar-by-pillar scores against the sector median, specific findings, quarter-on-quarter movement, the gap to the leader, and prioritised fixes. See the methodology for the exact scorecard format.
What gets measured
Section titled “What gets measured”Each business earns a Digital Visibility Score (0–100) across six pillars:
- Speed & Core Web Vitals — real-world load and interactivity on mobile
- Technical foundation — HTTPS, mobile-friendliness, indexability, structured data
- Local presence — Google Business Profile completeness, reviews, review velocity, NAP consistency
- Visibility — ranking and local-pack appearance for a fixed local keyword basket
- AI search presence — whether the business is surfaced by AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini for its core queries
- Content & trust — credentials, team, and content freshness
The methodology page documents the weights, the data sources, the snapshot dates, and the correction process. Read it first — it makes every league table legible.
How this connects to the rest of the site
Section titled “How this connects to the rest of the site”- Indices → apply → Knowledge Base. Each pillar is a measurable application of the local-SEO, technical, and structured-data strategy documented in the KB.
- Indices → use → Glossary. Scoring and quarter-on-quarter comparison use statistical methods from the glossary.
- Indices are the evidence layer. Where the Knowledge Base is strategy and the Glossary is method, an index is both applied and measured across a whole local sector at once.
The topical map shows the predicate structure: an Index measures a local sector across KB strategy + Glossary method.
